Sauna

HOW DOES A SAUNA CYCLE WORK?
~ Stay max 15 min in the sauna
~ Spend 10-15 min cooling down & relax
~ Repeat this cycle as long as you like it
~ Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration
~ If you are new to sauna use, maybe start with 5-10 minutes in the sauna at a mild temp and gradually increase the time & temp as your body adjusts to the heat.
~ Feel the symptoms of your body! Exit the sauna if you feel unwell, overheated, dizzy or have a rapid heart rate.
~ The temperature in the sauna is highest on the upper bench and lower on the lower bench.

START
~ You heat up the sauna yourself. To heat up to ±60 C it takes in summertime ±30 minutes, in wintertime ±45 minutes. Start with 4-5 pieces of wood and 1-2 fire starters (available in changeroom). Wait until the wood burns, and then fill up the oven completely with wood (if you only fill it half full, then you will not reach max temperature). It requires 2-3 times filling the oven with firewood) to reach the start temp of ±60 C. You can continue to heat up to your preferred temperature (60-90 C). Remember to regularly add firewood to keep the fire burning. If needed, extra fire wood is available in the box outside.
~ If you want, you can close the 2 ropes to have some more privacy at the platform.
~ Take place on a towel in the sauna
~ No outdoor shoes inside the sauna
~ Before entering the sauna, please rinse your feet in a water basin to rinse off dirt and soil
~ If you like sauna infusions, feel free to fill the sauna bucket with water and add max 3 bottle caps of aroma. Pour 2-3 spoons of water on the stones of the wood oven to create steam (careful not to burn yourself). Enjoy the increased humidity that is giving an additional heat sensation.

COOLING DOWN
~ You can cool down by going into the river water, rolling in snow or just by being outside. Do what feels good for you. Make sure to cool your body (and head!) down after using the sauna!
~ When using the water thermometer to measure the river temp, make sure it will not drift away.
~ Feel free to stand on the woolen pads when you are cooling down outside. It will be less cold for your feet.
~ When using the chairs, please take place on a towel if you did not rinse off your sweat in the river water first.
~ It is not advised to wear slippers into the river water as you might lose them in the mud.
~ Drink water regularly to avoid dehydration

FINISH
~ Empty the sauna bucket, do not leave water in it
~ Refill the foot basin with clean river water
~ Put the water thermometer back in the change room after use
~ Don’t leave the chair cushions outside but place them inside in the changeroom
~ Take garbage with you
~ Leave everything as clean as you found it :)
~ Lock the door (lift the handle to lock it) and put the key back in the key locker
~ Open up both ropes again

HOT TUB

START
~ The perfect temp to use the hottub is 38-42 C.
~ Start temp:
  • In high season the hottub will be heated up for you to approx. the right temperature.
  • In low season you heat up the hottub yourself or pay for heating service. In winter it takes ±2.5 hours (±3 times filling the oven full with firewood) to heat up from cold to 38-42 C. Firewood is available in the box outside, fire starters in the changeroom. Keep the lid on the hot tub when heating.

~ Maintaining the right temp: Usually it is not needed to continue firing up once the water reached the desired temperature. If the temp dropped to 30-35 C, then fire up with max 4-5 pieces of wood. Do not use more wood, otherwise it will become too hot. It is recommended not to exceed 42 C. If temp >45 C you can add cold river water by using the water basin.
~ If you want, you can close the 2 ropes to have some more privacy at the platform
~ Place the lid from the hot tub on its side in between the sauna and the box
~ Use the water thermometer to measure the temperature in the hottub (when using it to measure the river temp, make sure it will not drift away)
~ The hot tub is filled with river water; it has a yellowish color and can contain some sand and plant/weeds particles. This may vary depending on the season.
~ For hygiene purpose, it is mandatory to take a shower before you go into the hottub!
~ To keep the water clean, rinse your feet in the foot basin to rinse off dirt and sand every time before stepping into the hottub. Adults are responsible for their children to do this every time!
~ Do not use soaps or oil in the hot tub
~ Do not pee in the hot tub (of course). Children must be toilet trained; no (swim)diapers allowed.

FINISH
~ Place back the lid on the hot tub and close all 4 buckles
~ Do NOT empty the hot tub after use
~ Refill the foot basin with clean river water
~ Put the water thermometer back in the change room after use
~ Don’t leave the chair cushions outside but place them inside in the changeroom
~ Take garbage with you
~ Leave everything as clean as you found it :)
~ Lock the door (lift the handle to lock it) and put the key back in the key lock
~ Open up both ropes again
